Lake Erie is the walleye capitol of the world, and its fishery supports 10,000 jobs, boosting the economy of the area by $1,000,000,000 per year.  The lake has a Western Basin (average depth of 24 feet), a Central Basin (average depth of 60 feet), and an Eastern Basin (average depth of 80 feet).  Walleyes migrate throughout the entire lake.  The Western Basin is their breeding ground and home to walleye in the winter and spring.  After the spawn, walleyes migrate out in search of food and comfortable water temperatures, either staying in the Western Basin or leaving for the Central and Eastern Basin.  Lake Erie is about 241 miles long and 57 miles wide at its widest, with about 871 miles of shoreline.  Erie’s borders include 4 states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan) and 1 Canadian province (Ontario).

As a boy, I remember many fond memories of fishing this Great Lake with my father, uncle, and grandfather.  Years later, my passion for fishing Lake Erie has not dwindled one bit.  That is why I decided to become a charter captain and share the great fishing Lake Erie has to offer with others.  I provide affordable charters with years of experience and have a network of other charter captains that I am in contact with to catch and stay on fish.  Walleye like to move and can move fast!  They are often termed, “Here today and gone tomorrow”.

Erie Eye ChartersTravel to the fishing groundsI provide all tackle and equipment, bait, poles, and an arsenal of fishing lures specifically picked and used to target walleye and yellow perch.  Tactics and presentations can vary daily.  One day, you may catch walleye on crank baits.  The next day, they may prefer crawler harnesses or jet divers – spoons or dipsy divers.

You may ask, “What do I need to fish on the Erie Eye Charter boat?”  My recommendation is to bring sunscreen, a valid Ohio fishing license (sometimes, later in the summer when the fish move, a Canadian fishing license), motion sickness medicine if you are prone to sea sickness, and a small cooler for food and beverages.  Beer is allowed but no bottles and absolutely no hard liquor.   You will want to have a cooler for fish that are caught, and you may want to have rain or foul weather gear.

Kids and fishing!Good day on the ice! In case of rough water, trips will be rescheduled for a later date.  My clients’, as well as my own, safety comes first, and I will not risk the safety of anybody at any time.  Charter trips are based on 1-4 people on an 8 hour trip (dock to dock) for $450.00.  Walk-on trips are appreciated depending on availability.  I also provide night-time fishing trips later in the fall and ice fishing, when available.  Half-day fishing trips are available, as well.  Call for pricing.  Due to gas prices, charter rates may vary, so call ahead to verify.  I require a $100.00 deposit to hold dates.  Charters that are to be rescheduled must be within 14 days of the original charter trip, or all the deposit is forfeited.
